Shamar Bibbins serves as Senior Program Officer for Environment at The Kresge Foundation. Shamar manages the Environment Program’s Climate Resilience and Urban Opportunity Initiative. That initiative supports community-based nonprofit organizations seeking to influence local and regional climate resilience planning, policy development and implementation while reflecting the priorities and needs of low-income people. Shamar’s grantmaking also supports climate adaptation field building efforts in the U.S. and initiatives that advance diversity, equity, and inclusion in the environmental field. Shamar joined Kresge in 2014, bringing a history of engagement in environmental efforts in the non-profit sector and a strong commitment to action on climate change.
Shamar earned a bachelor’s degree in science, technology and society from Vassar College and received a Fulbright Fellowship to Japan where she conducted field research on the social and environmental implications of Japan’s Minamata disaster.
