Nellis Kennedy-Howard works for Sierra Club’s Beyond Coal to Clean Energy Campaign as Senior Campaign Representative for Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado and parts of Utah. Nellis is an attorney with certificates in Federal Indian Law and Natural Resources Law. Nellis is a Native Coloradan and currently resides in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Prior to working for Sierra Club, Nellis spent four years working alongside Winona LaDuke at the national Native environmental non-profit organization, Honor the Earth. Nellis believes climate justice is essential for the seventh generation and actively fights for energy justice in her work. Nellis became an environmentalist after she learned of the country’s largest uranium spill, which took place just miles from her family’s home on the Navajo Reservation and which has been poisoning generations of her family ever since.
