Laurel Chun is an Associate Director for Global Diversity, Equity & Inclusion at The Nature Conservancy. She is responsible for fundraising and creating practical resources for working with indigenous peoples and local communities. She co-facilitates Engaging Across Difference, a two-day workshop to build awareness and dialogue skills, and she was founding co-lead for the Conservancy’s Multicultural Employee Resource Group.
Laurel joined the Conservancy in 1993 as a writer. As a member of the Asia Pacific philanthropy team, she helped raise public and private funds for a budget that grew from start-up in 1993 to $17 million in 2004. In 2005, Laurel joined the Hawai‘i philanthropy team and helped raise $2.5 million annually to support conservation in Hawai‘i and Palmyra and internationally.
Laurel earned a Bachelor of Arts, a Master of Science, and a Master of Business Administration from Stanford University. She grew up in Hawai’i, lived in California, returned to Hawai‘i to raise her family, and now lives in Boston. She learned to surf 16 years ago and she is still learning.
